How to chassis optimization of M-Benz W205 C-Class

In the early days of KC Design has made a set chassis strut bar of sample for W205 C200. However, we were not famous enough so that there's nobody asking these products during then.
Until 2017, there is an owner of W205 interested in our products, then we started a long-term testing of products. As the three-year result of experiences, we compared and measured all chassis of W205 models to design the chassis strut bars of W205 2WD/4WD.

There are 2 types of chassis available for C-Class W205 currently on the market:
  • C200/C300/C63/C63S are belonged rear drive setting. 
  • C43/C50 are belonged 4 Wheel drive setting. 
The differences of both chassis is in the front, let's take a look of the completed photos that we collected.

There is no hierarchy of rear bumper, every car has iron I-beam, but the setting of exhaust pipe, which is different from C63S, is twin exhaust pipe. The diameter of exhaust pipe which is given by original manufacture is according to the difference of HP.

The biggest variation is front bumper. No matter the rear engine I-beam of C200 or C300 is made of iron, the original factory only strengthened the chassis with two thin single-layer stamping iron pieces to connect to the left and right sides of the vehicle body.

C63 and C63S have additional X-shape iron strut bar which is over 5kg besides the two iron pieces to raise up the steady of car. As same as BMW, they installed the X-shape structure to transfer the force, it also approved the theory that we shared before, X-shape structure contribute us to raise up the function.
但C63/C63S 則除了那兩隻鐵片外,另外在補了一件X型的鐵製結構桿(重達5kg以上),來提升車架剛性,且很巧妙的跟BMW車款一樣,都是在車體塑造一個X型的結構力道傳遞~
間接證明我們之前所說的X型結構有助於提升車輛靈活度的理論

The next model C43/C450 4WD have the same X-shape s as GLC-Class(X253), both of them utilize the I-beam which is made of aluminum, and have two iron pieces to connect left and right side of car body.

Something weird is that original factory still put an aluminum chassis which is about 8-9kg at the bottom, so that the understeering situation of C43 and C450 is more obvious than other general rear-engine.

We spent much time for adjusting the weight of front and rear body to balance, that's why we haven't made public the chassis strut bars of W205 as well.
Recently, we have already designed them completely, it has been at the last step now. 

Here are the points that how we optimize this structure of W205 RWD bodyshell.
​We divided the front section of bodyshell to three parts.
  1. Front strut bar 
  2. Front lower board (4 points)
  3. Front middle lower bar (4 points)

This product was designed to install C43/C450 6 cylinder car. On visual observation,   it might be shared with C63/C63S.
According the feedback of testing car, the directivity of the car and the abnormal sound of A-pillar were improved and promoted.

According to C63, we designed this product to improve the original iron structure which is too heavy so that understeer, it will be just right if it is used on C180/C200/C250. In addition, it’s available to be installed without modification, because there has original lock point.

Front middle lower bar (4 points) 

This product is designed for improving original V-shape structure board which is too thin. Through our front middle lower bar to restrain the vibration and pulling which is from the front of the car.
 
We only designed two products for 4WD front side of car C43/C450.

Through our front middle lower bar (4 points) to solve the problem of car bouncing from the front bumper, let it be restrained and absorbed by car body shell.

There are three bars for the rear of car.
  1. Rear lower bar (4 points) 
  2. Rear lower bar (2 points) 
  3. Rear strut bar (2 points)

This product is the most important part for W205, it connected middle of car body and the I-beam of rear bumper. We kept the original lock point as our main design to extend to the rear I-beam and fasten the screws. At the meanwhile, we need to dodge the exhaust pipe to put the skid plate back, so we modified and enhanced the bars continuously. The function and the outlook are perfect after modifying several time, finally, we overcame everything and produced it now!

Rear lower bar (2 points)



The function of rear lower bar is improving the shaking which is made by centrifugal force when we're driving in high-speed. We’re still considering to take the mass production, because there’re not many people driving as fast as the racer.
 
Rear strut bar (2 points) 




This strut bar has perfect feedbacks, due to we maintained the original lock point without modification, it almost is hidden at the trunk, and not influence the space. (As the picture below.)

The function to restrain the pulling is quite good, the high horsepower car to be pushed fluently, even though this product is not really big.

The following feedback is from the testing car of W205 C43/C450:
  • Low bouncing 
  • Low vibration
  • Handling tight and nimble
  • Low shaking 
  • Power stranger directly
All steering feel is pair up original AMG electronic suspension, if we don’t mention this, many people will think the feeling is like to modify high quality suspension and directivity, but it still has quite good comfort.

For W205 RWD:

For W205 AWD:
